The major difference you will notice as you examine the Rotary Cartridge Valve is the openness of the air port. In a rotary system you have removed all the complicated up and down machinery. The Rotary Value is similar to the rotating door used as an entrance to major hotels. 

Without an up and down motion, the valve simply turns in place with the opening cut into one side that when, in position freely allows air into the cylinder and closes with the same motion of the turning valve.

The result is larger air passages, increased air flow, improved combustion and improved control over the entire process.
